What is Rotaract?
Rotaract is an international service club for men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract is for young professionals and college students, both an equally important part of our membership. The organization is sponsored by Rotary International. You can take a look at some of the projects and activities that Rotaract Clubs are a part of world-wide on the International Rotaract web site.
The Rotaract Club of West Hawaii is community-based and sponsored by the Kona and Kona Mauka Rotary clubs. Through Rotaract, young adults not only augment their knowledge and skills, but they also address the physical and social needs of their communities, while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service.
Rotaract clubs are part of a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world. This effort starts at the community level but knows no limits in its outreach. Rotaractors have access to the many resources of Rotary International (RI) and The Rotary Foundation. Rotary International provides the administrative support that helps Rotaract clubs thrive.
The Rotaract program has developed into a strong international network of 7,300 clubs in more than 150 countries and geographical areas. Rotaract's 145,000 members are young men and women (ages 18 to 30) who serve the needs of their communities, widen their personal and professional contacts and increase their understanding of the world.
Rotaract is neither politically nor religiously affiliated.
What does a Rotaract Club do?
Rotaract clubs organize a variety of projects and activities, depending primarily on the interests of the club members. However, within the Rotaract program, all clubs undertake three types of activities in varying degrees: professional development, leadership development and service.
What are our Goals?
Rotaract has the following goals:
- To develop professional and leadership skills
- To emphasize respect for the rights of others, based on recognition of the worth of each individual
- To recognize the dignity and value of all useful occupations as opportunities to serve
- To recognize, practice, and promote ethical standards as leadership qualities and vocational responsibilities
- To develop knowledge and understanding of the needs, problems, and opportunities in the community and worldwide
- To provide opportunities for personal and group activities to serve the community and promote international understanding and goodwill toward all people
In what projects and activities are Rotaract Clubs involved?
We work together on a variety of community and international service projects. Some are short-term and one-day; others are more extensive. We welcome any new ideas for short-term projects.
Who are we?
The Rotaract Club of West Hawaii was founded on November 7, 2007. Our young professional members include teachers, researchers, analysts, software developers, and students from around the world living in West Hawaii.
Our regular meetings are held the first and third Wednesday of every month at the Hawaii Community College Campus in Kealakekua from 12 noon to 1 pm. Club projects and activities take place at varying times during the month.
